I spy

Just when I think my big brother is all grown up and won't annoy me anymore, he swoops in and surprises me. I tried to take some quick pics in front of my brother's house in Austin, and all of a sudden I notice a big grin on Alex's face.  I'm thinking, "Ok, do I look like an idiot or what?" I realize he's laughing because my brother is staring at me through his front door window.  So, I yell "Stop it Wesley!", just like when I was a 6 year old and he would bug the crap out of me. I get back to my pics and again....something else pops in the window. My good feline friend, Moses. Too bad Alex is deathly allergic to cats and we can only visit for short periods at a time.

Hair Evolution

There are a few reasons why I'm sad to leave Abilene, and one of them is my hair stylist, Caroline.  She finally brought color in to my life! Any suggestions of a good salon in Austin?

I've had MANY hair styles over the years...some good some BAD ; ) but that's what's so fun about hair. You can always change it. Here's a look back at a few of my haircuts over the years starting with the most recent.

My mullet stage

The buzz cut...Alex was not a fan of this one.  This was probably my favorite haircut. Who doesn't like buzzing the side of their head?

I think I was going for the poodle look

I went through a weird "Can you highlight one CHUNK of my hair?!" stage

This was my hair cut when I first went to college. I got some weird looks because of the random piece of long hair.

High School "Mop Head" Stage

Middle part with bedazzled bobby pins...yikes.

You are welcome to laugh now.

We'll see what hair cut comes next!

Thanksgiving

Did you have a good Thanksgiving? Mine was perfect because it included watching tv, napping, shopping, and eating.  Alex and I spent Thanksgiving in Austin without our families due to our work schedules, but we were able to eat a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with my new friend, Indiana Adams, and her friends and family.  She has a very cute Austin fashion blog, and it was great finally getting to meet her.

It’s time to get back to the gym for me because Alex and I ate out almost every meal for 3 days in a row. Here are some great places we thoroughly enjoyed; North by Northwest, Taco Deli, Franks and Milto’s. The restaurants in Austin are definitely a pro of moving.

Utmost thanks

I'm taking a break from the blog for a week.  As I think about what Thanksgiving means, I really can't believe how loving and caring God is in my life.  I am thankful for my family, husband, education, friends, etc. but I have to take a moment to realize that I am most thankful for the gift of salvation that Jesus gave to me and so many others.

Sometimes fashion, blogs, and clothes can consume my thoughts.  I hate the feeling of always wanting more.  I want to be content with what I have been given but sometimes that is a tough struggle.  This week I'm going to take a step away from social media, fashion blogs, and retail shopping sites. My heart and mind need a break.

Cover those legs

One of the best parts about the cold weather in Texas, which comes sparatically, is the option to wear tights.  Not only do they spice up an outfit, but they cover up my pasty white legs. I'm in love with over the knee socks as well but if you don't wear them the right way, you can definitely look a little riskaaay (you know what I'm saying).

If I could wear one outfit the entire fall/winter, it would be this one. Comfy + Cute

This outfit would be great for a Christmas party.  I wear ballerina flats almost everyday, so I try to create outfits that flats go well with.  I found the most amazing basic sequined flats from Jcrew this past wkd, but the price tag was way too high ($128). Here's to outfits under $100.

Moving In

Alex and I signed on an apartment last weekend in Austin (more so Round Rock), and I'm so ready to start decorating.  The space is very small, about 700 square feet, but it fits just the two of us.  Guests are welcome but bring your blow up mattresses!  We are on the hunt for some new living room furniture since I sold it all..haha, I wanted a fresh start.  We scored a couch that was half-price, and still need a coffee table, rug, curtains, and a couple of accent chairs.  Alex would love a giant leather recliner, and I say HECK NO to that! Where can I find a fashionable recliner that my husband can fit comfortably in? Probably not gonna happen.

Here's a few pics of our trip to IKEA

Our new coach...they threw in the pillows but they definitely need to be recovered.
Want this clock

I don't know what the heck this is but it was hideous...leather + suede, and it rotated 360. Alex of course enjoyed it.
Here are a few pics of inspiration for our living room. I want something simple and comfortable with a mix of modern & vintage.

Milena - Polish Artist

Dzien Dobry! Jak sie masz? Just a few of the phrases I learned while living in Poland for a year as a Rotary exchange student in 2005/06.  Milena was one of the first people I met in Poland and we instantly became best buds.  She loved to dance to weird techno songs with me, help me with the crazy polish language, and taught me how to make homemade pierogis.  I miss her and Poland constantly and I hope to visit in the next few years.

Milena is following her dream of becoming an artist, and I believe she has a bright future! Here is what Milena has to say about her artwork. (She speaks great English...I can't say the same for my Polish)

What inspires me the most are: fairytales, old movies ,random wikipedia articles, just everyday situations that happen to you while you use public transport or walk on the street. I design what I like - would like to wear or have, that's the simple rule I follow. I want my work to be 100% handmade so I paint shoes, shirts or bags using my own hands, brushes and paints. I think my goal is to create stuff that reminds adults of their happy childhood's memories and for a moment be a kid in some way." - Milena

Amazing...I love Beetlejuice!

Dziekuje Milena! Visit milenamilak.com to see more artwork!
